Emmylou Harris 65th Birthday
Emmylou Harris is celebrating her 65th birthday today. A 12-time Grammy winner, the singer songwriter also has plans to perform at the 2012 Regina Folk Festival coming up in August.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1947, the singer has produced over a dozen albums since her 1969 breakout album "Gliding Bird." Harris has sung alongside artists like Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, and the McGarrigles, all who appeared on her 2008 album "Hard Bargain."
Harris talked positively about her life journey on her official webpage. "I think you get to a certain point in your life where you do gaze back over the years and it's sort of a celebration or a thank-you for the fact that you cross paths with people who change you forever," Harris said commenting on the inspiration for her work. "Life goes on and unfolds before you, but those people and those events that change you forever are always with you. It was an important event that determined the trajectory of my life and, more than anything, of my work."
According to Palm Beach News Time, Harris has contributed to a wide expanse of music. "She's literally contributed to dozens of projects, supplying her wistful harmonies to albums by the likes of Bob Dylan, the Band, Roy Orbison, Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and Bright Eyes to name but a fraction of the recordings to her credits," Palm News has reported.
In addition to winning 12 Grammy awards, Harris has also won three Academy of Country Music awards and been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Outside of her musical career, Harris is known for her love of dogs. She tours with two currently, both of which have been rescued from shelters. She also assists in bringing in new strays and helping the shelter's to find homes.
Harris commented about bringing her dogs along on tour on her website. "I think of all the years on the road I wasted without a dog. They make it so much more pleasant. I'm making up for lost time now, that's for sure."
