Facebook Smartphone With HTC Confirmed?

Rumors of a Facebook smartphone collaboration with HTC has surfaced recently. It has long been known that Facebook has been planning to build its first official Facebook phone, but until recently, it was not sure whether they would work with HTC or Samsung.

According to All Things Digital, Facebook has finally chosen Taiwanese cellphone maker HTC to build a smartphone, code-named “Buffy,” after the hit U.S. television series about a vampire slayer.

The phone will have Facebook built into the device and run on a modified version of Android. As reported by All Things Digital, the phone will not be available for at least a year.

The idea of Buffy was conceived two years ago and is currently being led by Facebook CTO Bret Taylor.

But some are doubtful of the idea of an official Facebook phone.

Forbes contributor Ewan Spence said: “I don't see how a single handset, even with the Facebook ecosystem shoe-horned into a mobile device, could have an impact in the marketplace.”
