Gaddafi Dead: Secret Religious Burial Conducted in Libya Desert

Former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi has been buried with his son Mutassim and ex-Defense Minister Abu Bakr Yunis Jaber in a secret location in the Libyan desert.

According to the National Transitional Council (NTC), Libya’s interim government, their corpses were removed from a disused commercial freezer in a Misrata warehouse Monday night. Gaddafi’s body had been on public display for four days as the nation celebrated its liberation from the tyrant.

According to an anonymous Misrata military council member, Gaddafi’s body was buried “overnight in a religious ceremony.”

Three religious leaders loyal to Gaddafi were given permission to perform a religious ceremony before the burial took place, according to AFP.

An official told Reuters that Gaddafi “will be buried in a simple burial with sheikhs attending the burial. It will be an unknown location in the open desert. The corpse cannot last any longer.”

Gaddafi, 69, was beaten and killed in his own hometown of Sirte last week, prompting celebrations across the nation. NTC officials decided that on an unnamed anonymous grave for the fallen dictator, to make sure that his grave does not become a shrine for Gaddafi supporters.
