Gaga Eating Disorder Confession: I Don't Have It Anymore
Lady Gaga is the latest celebrity to admit to having an eating disorder, although the singer said that she overcame the battle against her body.
The "Applause" singer opened up to Harper's Bazaar magazine about her struggle recently, reassuring fans that she is "better with food."
"I don't have an eating disorder anymore," Gaga told the magazine. "I'm also better at not letting people take advantage of me … I should be around people who cherish my talents, my health, my time."
This past year proved difficult for Gaga as she was forced to cancel her tour to have hip surgery, and the singer also let go of her longstanding manager, Troy Carter. However, she learned how to protect herself and her assets through the hard times.
"I'm not a pawn for anyone's future business," Gaga told the magazine. "I'm an artist. I deserve better than to be loyal to people who only believe in me because I make money."
Notwithstanding, Gaga's hard-earned lessons came only after a serious bout with depression, and coupled with the eating disorder, the singer described "a deep sadness like an anchor dragging everywhere I go."
"I just didn't feel like fighting anymore," the hitmaker added. "I didn't feel like standing up for myself one more time-- to one more person who lied to me. I really felt like I was dying-- my light completely out."
Fortunately, Gaga was able to focus on the good things in her life, including her fans which are known as "little monsters," and her mood turned around in the beginning of January. In doing so, the singer reignited her passion for music.
"Depression doesn't take away your talents-- it just makes then harder to find," she said. "But I always find it. I learned that my sadness never destroyed what was great about me. You just have to go back to that greatness, find that one little light that's left. I'm lucky I found one little glimmer stored away."
Gaga's admission about depression and an eating disorder arrives just weeks after Ke$ha announced her battle with the same problems. The singer is being treated in a rehab facility.
