Galaxy Nexus Release Date: November is 'Android Month' with 3 Major Smartphone Releases

The release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Droid Razr and HTC Rezound will apparently make November "Android Month" after Apple dominated October with its release of the iPhone 4S.

The Droid Razr will launch on Nov. 11 while the Rezound will launch on Nov. 14. The Galaxy Nexus has not yet received a launch date but is expected to release in late November. Insiders suggest Nov. 21 or anytime during or after Black Friday weekend.

The Droid Razr is currently available for pre-sale but no pre-sale date has been slated for the Rezound.

Industry experts project the three Android smartphones will be stiff competition for the iPhone 4S.

Android is known to be the most popular mobile platform in the world due to its availability on a vast range of different handsets.

The Samsung Galaxy S2, whose popularity has garnered it the name "iPhone Killer," has sold over 10 million handsets worldwide since its international release in April. In conjunction with its predecessor the Galaxy S, the handsets have sold 30 million units worldwide.

The Galaxy Nexus is expected to be another consumer favorite as it is the first smartphone to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the company's latest operating system.

The Droid Razr and Rezound will release with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, but will receive an Ice Cream Sandwich update in 2012.

The Rezound, Droid Razr and Galaxy Nexus all have dual-core processors and large high-resolution displays with 1080p video recording. The Galaxy Nexus has a 5-megapixel camera while the Droid Razr and Rezound have 8-megapixel cameras.

Since its release on Oct. 14, the iPhone 4S has sold over 4 million handsets.

However, a recently released report by Strategy Analytics named Android as the top producer of smartphones in the world, while Apple is in second place.
