Galaxy Nexus Release Date: Verizon Document Reveals Multiple Carriers for Smartphone

Leaked documents reveal the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will release on other networks after it is released on the Verizon Wireless network.

The Droid Guy technology website suggested the wording of the leaked training document for Verizon Wireless affiliate, Costco, indicate that the Verizon has exclusivity for the release of the smartphone, but not total exclusivity.

"Verizon Wireless is the exclusive launch partner for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE smartphone, the first to offer the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system," said the documents.

The Droid Guy noted the document described Verizon Wireless as the "exclusive 'launch' partner" of the Galaxy Nexus. Thus, other networks could carry the phone in the future.

"We’ve seen this strategy many times before like with the iPhone 4, AT&T was the exclusive launch partner but then Verizon received it," said The Droid Guy.

"How about the Motorola Atrix 4G, AT&T was the original launch partner for that device however Sprint now carries it as the Photon 4G. What this text simply says is Verizon Wireless will have it first,” The Droid Guy added.

The Droid Guy also said the training document detail that Verizon Wireless will receive the 4G LTE versions of the Galaxy Nexus first.

The Galaxy Nexus is expected to power both 4G LTE and HSPA+ networks. This has led insiders to believe networks such as AT&T and T-Mobile, that power both 4G LTE and HSPA+, could eventually have an option for the Galaxy Nexus.

There is also speculation the phone could eventually be powered on Sprint's WiMAX network.

An inventory form recently surfaced detailing that Sprint ordered advertising posters for the "Nexus Prime,” the most common internal alias for the Galaxy Nexus.
