Galaxy Note 3 Active Version to Feature Flexible Display

Samsung will release another version of the Galaxy Note 3 that will be known as the Active in the coming months.

This new model will feature a flexible display, according to new reports from South Korean media. LG will also release its LG Z device that will have the same kind of screen.

Both of these handsets will be unveiled in the coming weeks. Either one of these companies could end up being the first to launch a smartphone with a flexible display.

DDaily predicts that Samsung's Note 3 Active will drop first as the company plans to announce it next week. Samsung revealed this information during a recent interview with reporters where it discussed its Q3:2013 financial results.

Other reports from Korean outlets such as ZDNet touched on the design for LG's Z which will have a banana-like fixed shape. It will be bendable, but the curvature will be permanent to the look of the handset. This curved display will make movie watching more enjoyable. The device will also fit the form of the user's face better during phone calls.

The display will be the only part that's flexible on the Z as other components such as the battery will not be designed for bending. Other specs on the device include a 6-inch Full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, and LTE-A support. It is also expected to be extremely durable thanks to the flexible body.

Samsung will begin to ship the Galaxy Note 3 this month and unveiled the device in the beginning of Sept. This new Active model will most likely have the same specifications as the original version which features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED with 1080x1920 pixels at 386ppi, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, a 13-megapixel camera, 32GB internal storage, and 3GB RAM.
