Galaxy Note 3 Vs. Xperia Z Ultra: Spec by Spec Comparison
Samsung recently released the Galaxy S3 to virtually no competition in the states, but now it seems that Sony wants a piece of the action and has employed the Xperia Z Ultra to get it.
The company's new phablet launched alongside the Xperia Z1 and the Sony SmartWatch earlier this week and appeals to the same market as the Galaxy Note 3. So how does it stack up against Samsung's hit device? Here is a brief spec comparison of the Note 3 and Xperia Z Ultra.
Display
Sony's Xperia Z Ultra brings a bigger display to the market that measures in at 6.4-inches and has 1080x1920 pixels resolution at 344ppi. The Galaxy Note 3 features a 5.7-inch display that has 1080x1920 pixels resolution at 386ppi. Both devices feature some impressive screens, however; the one found on the Xperia Z is scratch resistant and shatter proof giving Sony a slight advantage over the Note 3 which features an easily breakable display.
Speed
The Galaxy Note 3 features a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 3GB RAM making it a beast of a machine. The Xperia Z also packs a Snapdragon 800 chipset, however; it comes with only 2GB RAM. The Galaxy Note 3 most likely runs smoother and provides users with a more efficient experience by a plain look at the specs.
Camera
The Xperia Z Ultra comes with an 8-megapixel shooter while the Galaxy Note 3 has a 13-megapixel version. Samsung has chosen to increase megapixels, but this method of advancement does not always equate to better quality pictures. Despite that fact, Samsung still has a slight edge in this department.
Software
Samsung takes it once again with this department as the Note 3 runs Android 4.3, JellyBean. The Xperia Z Ultra is a little behind as it comes with Android 4.2 out of the box. It should receive the Android 4.3 update sometime soon, but until then Samsung has another advantage in the software department.
Extras (Stylus)
Samsung popularized its S Pen stylus on the first two Galaxy Note models and continues to advance the accessory on the Note 3. However, Sony gives Xperia Z Ultra owners the option to use regular pencils and pens in order to access some of the same functionality that could be found on the Galaxy Note 3.
Conclusion
The Galaxy Note 3 is clearly the superior device, but the Xperia Z Ultra could help Sony to build up a buzz for a stronger version on the next go round. The Ultra is not a bad device, but for buyers looking for the best the market has to offer, the Note 3 is definitely the better choice.
