Galaxy S3 Android 4.2, JellyBean Update Now Available

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2, JellyBean update is now available through a new ROM called SlimBean.

This is the second build of the ROM and it brings many of the features found in JellyBean 4.2.2 to the flagship smartphone. It also fixes some bugs and optimizes the overall performance of the device.

New features available with the SlimBean ROM include TheRealDarkSlim Toggle, a Shiny new SlimSizer, extended quicksettings style options, new notification/lockscreen shortcut icons, configurable QS long press, NFC polling mode, fullscreen toggle, and the ability to customize charging battery color.

The ROM also fixes bugs including the Navbar back/menu firing after longpress actions, the NavBar "kill app" action killing system apps and crashing system. It also improves HTML5 audio playback and fixes the BT tethering label.

The Galaxy S3 received some other upgrades along with a significant price cut. Samsung will offer the handset with wireless charging capabilities and will also improve the battery life. The S3's display is also rumored to have a slight adjustment in a positive direction.

U.S. Cellular recently released a software update for the Galaxy S3 which brings other improvements to the device.

This update will bring the smartphone up to the MB1 build, which includes a few improvements and additions to the present build and upgrades it to the latest form of Android 4.1, JellyBean.

The Galaxy S3 benefited from the update as it fixes some bugs and bring some enhancements to audio during streaming. The camera gained some capabilities related to continuous shooting.

This update is also available for the Galaxy Note 2.

The phablet already runs the latest version of Android 4.1, JellyBean, so the update will probably bring other kinds of upgrades and additions to the device. Changes being made to the phablet with the update are unknown at this point. However, there will most likely be bug fixes.
