Galaxy S3 vs. iPhone 5: Samsung Sells More Smartphones Than Apple in 2012
The Galaxy S3 vs. iPhone 5 battle has concluded for 2012 as new statistics point to Samsung winning the matchup last year.
Strategy Analytics published a report which showed that Samsung accounted for 31.8 percent of smartphone sales in the U.S. beating out Apple who accounted for 26.2 percent.
However, Apple released its flagship smartphone nearly 5 months after Samsung launched the Galaxy S3, so the Korean-based company had a slight advantage. The company secured a victory in the fouth quarter of 2012 having 34 percent market share overall with Samsung trailing with 32.3 percent.

This data is a compiled using the total smartphone sales of both companies that includes all iPhone models and Samsung handsets.
Apple as a U.S. California-based company performs the best in its home nation. Despite the popularity of Samsung's Galaxy S line in other nations, Apple still manages to beat it out once it launches a new flagship device in the U.S.
The third highest smartphone dealer for 2012 in the U.S. was LG who had 12.3 percent total. However, the company's numbers saw a significant decline from last year when its market share was almost 17 percent. LG's finest smartphone to be released in 2012 was the Nexus 4. The new Android 4.1, JellyBean device will definitely continue to boost LG's sales in 2013 and the handset is still extremely hard to find and retailers such as Google Now just cannot seem to keep it in stock.
Apple might also have a big year in 2013 as the company is expected to release two new iPhones this year with one of them being a low-cost model and the other being a beefed up version of the iPhone 5.
Samsung will release the highly anticipated Galaxy S4 along with the successor to the Galaxy Note. The company has high hopes for the S4 and expects it to sell 10 million units a month.
