Galaxy S4 Android 4.4, KitKat Update Leaked, New Firmware Now Available for Download

The Galaxy S4 Android 4.4, KitKat update leaked earlier this month in the form of a new ROM.

A test firmware for the 4.4.2 build compatible with the international version of the Galaxy S4 is now available for download. This version was created to work on the open European version of the handset and is "pretty stable," according to Sam Mobile. The site obtained the build from an industry insider and is offering it to those looking to have the new software in advance.

The firmware includes a few tweaks to the user interface. The Gingerbread-style-nuclear green" status bar icons have been changed to the KitKat-style Google approved white ones. Other aspects remain unchanged such as the toggles in the notification dropdown menu that still use the old green.

The camera icon has been added in the lower right corner of the lock screen that allows users to access it faster.

Sam Mobile claims the performance is slightly better with the new firmware.

The site also leaked a new ROM that could be used to install Android 4.4.2, KitKat on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

It posed up a leaked version of the firmware labeled N9005XXUENA6 for the phablet earlier this week and describes it as one of the final Android 4.4.2 KitKat test builds for it. This basically means that nothing will be excluded or included in future builds of Android 4.4 aside from some bug fixes and other small improvements.

Sam Mobile also confirmed that Samsung would be rolling out the official update in one to two weeks.

Unofficial ROMs should be downloaded with caution as they can sometimes void the warrantee or cause owners to lose their settings and other software. Users unfamiliar with this process should avoid installing the ROM.
