Gearbox Has Finally Confirmed That Another 'Borderlands' Game Is Coming
The game developer behind the "Borderlands" franchise, Gearbox Software, has finally confirmed that it is working on another installment in the shooter franchise. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford shared a few details during a panel at the recently concluded PAX East, according to a report in GameSpot. He confirmed that the game is being worked on by saying, "Obviously, there is going to be another Borderlands." However, he also cited that they are not sure if they will call it "Borderlands," warning fans not to get "too attached" to the name.
Gearbox also identified some of the team members who will be working on the game. These includes the art director of "Battleborn," Scott Kester. Incidentally, he also worked on the previous installment of the franchise, "Borderlands 2." Mickey Neumann, who is also Gearbox's chief creative champion is said to be writing the next "Borderlands." He had a hand at writing the first installment of the series, as well as the "Brothers in Arms" game series of Gearbox.
When Neumann was asked about the storyline for the next game, he cited that it may have ties to "Tales from the Borderlands" as he may refer to a character named Scooter who names his son Scooper who in turn will appear in "Borderlands 3." Scooper will apparently have a super high-pitched voice, according to Neumann. Scooter however may not make an appearance in the upcoming game because of the fate that befalls him in "Tales from the Borderlands," according to the report.
In addition to the confirmation, Gearbox also said that production of the game will start as soon as the studio is done with "Battleborn" and all of its DLC. According to a Tech Times report, there will also be a connection between "Battleborn" and "Borderlands" as the former's DLC will feature many Easter eggs about "Borderlands." Pitchford also teased that apart from putting in Easter Eggs about previous "Borderlands" games in "Battleborn," they may even be considering putting in "future stuff" in the DLC.
The game has no estimated release date yet, but publisher Take-Two had earlier announced that the game is going to be made for next-generation consoles which mean the PS4 and the Xbox One as well as the PC.
