Giuliana Rancic 'Devastated' Over Surrogate's Miscarriage, 'Relying on Faith'
Giuliana Rancic and her husband Bill are "devastated" over the news of their surrogates's miscarriage this week.
After several failed fertility treatments which were all documented on the television series "Giuliana and Bill," the couple were able to welcome their son Duke in 2012 via a surrogate. However, the Rancics were hoping to expand their family by using the same surrogate mother, Delphine. Sadly, Delphine suffered a miscarriage recently.
"This whole season on 'Giuliana and Bill' we've been trying to have another baby," Bill revealed to People.com on Sunday, June 1. "Unfortunately our surrogate Delphine who we love very much had a miscarriage. It's something that we didn't see coming. We were devastated."
Ahead of the sad news, Rancic said he and his wife remained cautious but had hoped for the best.
"She was about nine weeks pregnant," she said to People. "We were pretty close to getting into the safe zone. We experienced a miscarriage years ago when we were trying with Giuliana, so we had been keeping the pregnancy news tight to the vest."
Despite the miscarriage, Rancic noted that he and his wife are "tough" and gather strength from their faith.
"It's a double sadness because we didn't want [Delphine] to feel bad," he said. "And Giuliana was rather distraught at first, but she's tough. In times like this we rely on our faith. Once the tears went away we started to look toward the future."
Rancic was referring our course to the son he shared with Giuliana, Duke, who is a busy toddler.
"Duke just turned 21 months and he's a ball of energy," Rancic explained. "From the minute he wakes up he is just running. He just walks up to ladies at the Coffee Bean and starts batting his eyelashes and smiling at them. It's the cutest thing I've ever seen."
The season finale of "Giuliana and Bill" Tuesday will reveal the miscarriage at length.
