Golden Globe Winners 2012: George Clooney Tops Pitt, DiCaprio
The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards have honored today's best contributions to the world of entertainment.
Two big wins in the Drama category went to 2011's, "The Descendants," including Best Motion Picture, while George Clooney earned Best Actor for his role in the film. The actor beat fellow A-listers Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Ryan Gosling for the award.
Earning three awards during Sunday's ceremony was "The Artist," which earned Best Motion Picture in the comedy or musical category, while the film's star, Jean Dujardin, earned Best Actor. The highly acclaimed film also earned a Golden Globe for Best Original Score with work by Ludovic Bource.
Hosted by Ricky Gervais, the Golden Globes also saw Meryl Streep take home the coveted Best Actress award for her role in drama film "Iron Lady." The award marks the actress' eighth Golden Globe win.
"My Week With Marilyn" star Michelle Williams earned Best Actress in a comedy or musical, while Best Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role in a motion picture went to Octavia Spencer of "The Help" and Christopher Plummer of "Beginners," respectively.
Other big wins included Martin Scorsese earning Best Director for "Hugo," while Woody Allen earned and Globe for Best Screenplay with "Midnight in Paris."
Showtime's "Homeland" earned the night's top television award in the Drama category with Best Television series, while the show's star, Claire Danes, took home the Best Actress award.
Finishing up the drama category in television, Kelsey Grammer earned Best Actor for his role on Starz' "Boss."
The Emmy Award knock-out television series "Modern Family" also saw a Golden Globe Sunday, earning Best Television Series in the comedy or musical category. Best Actress and Actor in the category went to Laura Dern and Matt LeBlanc, respectively.
"Downton Abbey" continued to shine at the Golden Globes Sunday after earning Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, while Best Actor and Actress in the category went to Kate Winslet and Idris Elba. Awards for supporting roles in the category went to Jessica Lange in "American Horror Story" and Peter Dinklage in "Game of Thrones."
Both Brad Pitt and his longtime partner Angelina Jolie were among the night's nominees, but neither star took home an award Sunday.
