Google Releasing Game Center Similar to the iPhone's

Google is planning to create and release a Game Center app for Android similar to the one Apple has for the iPhone, according to a recent report from Business insider.

The application will make Google a more viable contender in the mobile gaming market.

Business Insider also stated that this new app will include a social achievement system that will give players awards and trophies for completing specific tasks in a game. It will have a leaderboard used to rank players against their friends as well.

Google is finally recognizing how big gaming has made the iPhone, and wants to focus more of its energy towards the game department with its Android devices.

Business Insider also revealed Google CEO, Larry Page's plans to have the company's employees work to tie-in Google's products more closely together, and creating a game center will help to speed up this process. Integrating Google+, the company's very own social network, is also a major goal for it.

"They are starting to really understand all of the needs and wants to make a game really successful," said an insider source to the publication. "As recently as even a year ago, that really wasn't a part of their institutional DNA, but I think they're getting there."

Google also plans to fix the payments system for Google Play, according to the source, who says the company wants to make it run as smooth as Apple's App Store. He also cited that this is a big reason why Android developers make less money that those who build apps for Apple devices.

Google has not confirmed the development of this application.

Apple's Game Center was introduced in 2010 and allows app users to invite friends, start multiplayer games, track achievements and compare scores on a leaderboard.
