Gospel Music Association Mobilizes Project Restore, Plans Benefit Concert
The Gospel Music Association (GMA) has announced its mobilization of Project Restore - the gospel music industry’s official crisis response vehicle, which works in partnership with World Vision.

“The scope of the tragedy in the Gulf Coast is unimaginable and grows more desperate every day,” said GMA President John W. Styll in a statement released by the association. “To see this sort of tragedy happening in our own country is especially difficult, but we must view this as an opportunity to rally the GMA community to offer our prayers and resources as a reflection of the grace and goodness of the Gospel.
“As citizens of this country and as followers of Christ, we must help to bring restoration to the people whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina.”

For its primary fundraising effort, the GMA will partner with Atlanta-based Gospel Music Channel (GMC) through Project Restore for a multi-network, nationally televised benefit concert entitled “Gospel Angels,” which is scheduled to be held on Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta.
“America is facing an unprecedented crisis of people torn from their homes and left with nothing but the clothes on their backs,” said Charley Humbard, co-founder of the Gospel Music Channel. “It’s critical that we step up to meet this next phase of the crisis in their lives, providing tangible assistance as well as hope, which gospel music communicates like no other music.”
“Gospel Angels” will air live on GMC from 7-10 p.m. EST and live on PAX TV from 8-10 p.m. EST and will feature top artists from all genres of gospel music. More details about the event are forthcoming.
“We are not surprised by the immediate rush of activity from our artist community,” said Styll. “Their individual efforts will make a great difference in many lives. In addition to their efforts and Project Restore’s industry-wide efforts, we would ask that every person in this music community join in prayer for city, state and federal leaders and agencies and for every individual affected by Hurricane Katrina. When the voices of God’s people are raised in prayer, amazing things will happen.”
