Gospel Singer Mandisa to Celebrate Single Women on Valentine's Day

Mandisa Hundley, an American Gospel singer and three-time Grammy nominee, is hosting a special Valentine's Day event to celebrate single women. "Galentines," involving fun, music, comedy and biblical encouragement, will be held in Nashville, Tenn.

"This will be the first time in many years that I am not sitting on my couch, watching some romantic comedy, and eating a tub of ice cream by myself on Feb. 14," says Mandisa, former American Idol finalist, of the event, "Galentines," which will be broadcast online.

"Women are so much more than their marital statuses," Mandisa is quoted as saying in a statement by the organizer, LifeWay Christian Resources, a Tenn.-based ministry.

LifeWay says the ticketed event is created to "celebrate with single women" on Valentine's Day. Women of all ages and walks of life are invited to get to know the heart and talent of Mandisa, who this past fall performed her hit single "Good Morning" on the highest rated morning show, ABC's "Good Morning America."

Mandisa was a top 10 finalist on the fifth season of American Idol and she appeared on the show "The Biggest Loser." In 2011, she released her third studio album, If We Were Real, which was nominated for a Grammy award for Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year. In 2008, she was also nominated for a Grammy in the same category for her first album, True Beauty.

The Valentine's Day event will feature a concert with Mandisa and an interview with Mandy Hale, blogger and author of The Single Woman's Sassy Survival Guide. "I just want to give single women a PLACE," Hale is quoted as saying. "So often, we go through life feeling like we don't quite fit in anywhere, and Valentine's Day only seems to exacerbate those feelings."

Known as "The Single Woman™," Mandy has garnered a Twitter following of a half a million people from across the globe in just over two years.

LifeWay Bible study authors Kelly Minter and Lisa Harper will also speak at the event. "My hope is that single women of all ages and walks of life will be encouraged to live fully in Jesus right where they are, embracing a life characterized not by miserably waiting around but by wholly giving themselves to the present," Minter – speaker, singer, songwriter, author, and worship leader – is quoted as saying.

Harper is described as "hilarious storyteller" and "theological scholar," anything but stereotypical.

Two years ago, Mandisa made headlines for shedding 100 pounds, around the time when her first single, "Stronger," was released to digital retailers.

"I can't think of a better time to have finally lost 100 lbs," she had said. "How appropriate that on the day my single 'Stronger' is released, proclaiming that God is able to take us through the difficult times and bring us out stronger, He gives me a physical manifestation of that truth!"
