'Grey's Anatomy' Spoilers: Cristina Ditches Owen Ahead of Gala
"Grey's Anatomy" returns to ABC this week as it winds down to the season finale in just a few short weeks.
Fans of the medical drama patiently endured a winter hiatus during season 10, and are enjoying the subsequent 12 weeks of uninterrupted "Grey's" episodes. However, viewers are left anxiously anticipating actress Sandra Oh's departure ever since "Grey's" creator Shonda Rhimes promised that Oh's character, Cristina Yang, would get "the exit she deserves."
This week's episode is entitled "I'm Winning" and could provide insight as to why Cristina is ready to leave Seattle. The synopsis reads: "Cristina is nominated for a prestigious award and remains calm amid all of the excitement. Meanwhile, Bailey tries to help a boy who doesn't have an immune system; Derek and Callie use a machine that recognizes emotions; and Richard delivers a pep talk."
Moreover, the synopsis of next week's April 17 episode entitled "Go It Alone" reveals some spoilers about season 10. According to CarterMatt.com, Cristina's decision not to bring Own to the gala reveals what motives she has for leaving Seattle, and what her plans are for the future.
The full synopsis for the April 17 episode on ABC is as follows: "Cristina enlists Meredith to help her prepare an acceptance speech for her possible Harper Avery win and while Owen offers to attend the ceremony with her, she insists on going alone. Meanwhile, Derek feels overwhelmed between his responsibilities at home and at the hospital. April and Jackson come to a disagreement on children and religion, and Callie and Arizona try to reconnect in their marriage."
"Grey's Anatomy" airs on ABC Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST. The season finale will air on May 15.
While fans are saddened over Cristina's departure, Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) and Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd) have signed contracts assuring viewers that their characters will stay on for at least two more years. During an interview with TVLine back in August, Dempsey discussed his future portraying beloved character some nicknamed McDreamy.
"Everything is open to conversation at this point," Dempsey said. "Grey's has been such a remarkable ride. Shonda [Rhimes] has been incredibly supportive. I enjoy Grey's more than ever in many ways. Our relationship has grown considerably. We've all matured of the last 10 years. So it would be a shame to end this."
