'Halo' Mixed-Reality Experience Announced by Microsoft

Fans of "Halo" who are looking for something different or gamers who have yet to enter the world of the franchise will be treated to a unique experience.

According to a Gamespot report, gaming giant Microsoft and developer 343 Industries announced this week a new mixed-reality project titled "Halo: Recruit." The project, however, is not a game and neither is it part of an existing "Halo" installment. Instead, it is described as a "fun little arcade experience" that introduces gamers to the franchise, explained 343 in a blog post.

Those who will try out "Halo: Recruit" will get to know some of the most iconic characters from the franchise, their different weapons, and possibly a Warthog. "The point is, it was a chance for us to start to play with Microsoft's amazing new technology and for you to get to stand toe-to-toe with an Elite," wrote 343.

The new mixed-reality experience becomes available for download in Microsoft Stores for free, starting Oct. 17. Interested parties, however, must first have their own Windows MR headset to enjoy "Halo: Recruit." The new Halo experience, which is the first of its kind, will run for a total of five minutes. It was also co-developed by Endeavor One "a small powerhouse studio with deep ties" to the franchise, 343 added.

Meanwhile, Bungie is celebrating the 10th anniversary of "Halo 3." To usher in the festivities, they recently announced a new playlist for "Halo 5: Guardians" with a little twist of throwback. "To celebrate and commemorate the occasion we've got a brand new playlist for Halo 5, a special 343 live stream, Halo 3 on Xbox One back-compat, and a trip down memory lane with members of the team and our community," wrote Bungie in a blog post.

The commemorative playlist will only be up for a limited time, and it features different maps from "Halo 3" using Forge tools from "Halo 5." Included are Guardian, Citadel, Isolation, Boundless, High Ground, (Snowbound), Ghost Town, and The Pit.
