'Hangover 3' Freeway Closure Frustrates Drivers

California commuters have been sounding off about a coastal Orange County freeway being closed for the filming of "The Hangover 3" over the weekend.

Southern California's highway 73 saw staggered closures in order to film the third installment of the "Hangover" franchise until 7 p.m. Sunday.

The San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor received $25,000, Lori Olin, a spokesperson, told the Associated Press. The total included location fees and was intended to offset the tolls along the Orange County road.

While the Warner Bros. production closed a key route between the 405 and Jamboree Road, Orange County officials said it will help the area's overall economy, according to the local radio station KPCC.

Many drivers in the area took to social media sites, venting both frustrations and surprise over the highway closure.

Adam wrote, "So it costs 25k to shutdown a highway on a Sunday in LA?"

Alicia posted, "Why is highway 73 closed down and have a huge, annoying detour you ask? Oh… it's because they're filming HANGOVER 3…"

"Highway 73 around Irvine closed to film Hangover 3 movie- I bet some guys get drunk and then forget what they did #spoileralert," wrote Twitter user Tom.

Alternately, "Hangover" fans posted their excitement over the third installment to the series.

"Cool! Drive by here all the time," wrote Connie.

Katie added, "Just drove past the highway and production set where the Hangover 3 is being filmed!! #freakingout #alanismysoulmate"

"The Hangover" debuted in theaters in 2009 and earned over $400 million worldwide. Its sequel in 2011 "The Hangover Part II" was also a blockbuster.

The film stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis as members of an ill-fated bachelor party in Las Vegas.

"The Hangover 3" is expected to hit theaters on May 24, 2013.
