Harold Camping Oct. 21 Rapture: Family Radio Taking Donations After Friday Doomsday

Despite his claim that the end of the world will come on Oct. 21, two days from now, Harold Camping's Family Radio network is set up to take donations after the supposed doomsday date.

On the Family Radio website, its donation page is still set up to take recurring donations on a monthly basis. It is possible to choose to make a donation on the 22nd of each month, which would be one day after the world ends, according to Camping.

According to the CNN, Family Radio is worth approximately $72 million, with most of that total coming from donations. Between 2005 and 2009, the non-profit radio station received $80 million from contributions.

For donors who believed their financial support would go to help people learning about a rapture that might not come this Friday, The Christian Post asked experts shortly after Camping's previous doomsday miscalculation if it would be possible to sue Family Radio.

However, Sandra Miniutti, vice president of Charity Navigator, which evaluates over 5,500 of America's largest charities, told CP that she did not think that Family Radio committed any wrongdoing, from a financial standpoint.

"They believed that the rapture was going to happen. I don't think they did anything illegal," Miniutti said. "Donors would only have a recourse if the charity was soliciting for one thing but spent it on something else."

She added, "My understanding is that they were soliciting money to help people understand the word of God. They spent it on what they intended to spend it on."

Despite being wrong about his end of the world predictions twice already, Camping still has strong support from his supporters.

"We are with you here in NY," Craig Alan wrote on Camping's Facebook page. "We look forward to completing our life's journey with you Friday. God bless you. Forgive the non-believers. You are the TRUE prophet."
