Harvest Youth Night Attracts Thousands, Overfills Stadium

More than 9,200 participants over-filled the Augusta Civic Center Monday, on the second night of Harvest Christian Fellowship's four-day evangelistic crusade in Augusta, Georgia.

The second night of the April 17-20 crusade attracted thousands more attendees than what the 8,000 capacity stadium could hold; according to organizers, some 1,500 observers overflowed into the parking lot that evening.

The mostly-youth attendees partook in the Harvest Youth Jam, which combined a straightforward message of faith by Harvest pastor Greg Laurie and worship music by popular CCM groups Mercy Me and Jeremy Camp.

Pastor Laurie's talk focused on "eternity," according to a press release by Harvest.

"It doesn’t matter what sort of life you have had—drugs, alcohol, whatever—Jesus Christ can change your life," Laurie challenged. "Nothing this world offers you can fit the hole in your heart that only God can fill."

By the end of the evening, more than 600 people walked to the front of the Civic Center to commit their lives to Jesus Christ.

Hosted by more than 135 churches in the Augusta area, the Greater Augusta Harvest with Greg Laurie is the first time in almost twenty years that an evangelistic event of this magnitude was held in this city.

Tuesday night, the crusade will feature music from The Katinas and the world’s fastest flat-picking guitarist, Dennis Agajanian.

The final night of the Greater Augusta Harvest, Wednesday, will feature music from Grammy Award-winning band Jars of Clay and Crystal Lewis with Pastor Greg Laurie speaking on biblical principles.

Harvest will begin a second Georgia event in Athens on Friday, April 22.

Harvest Crusades presents Christian beliefs in a culturally relevant way, employing Internet technology - each event is broadcasted live at www.harvest.org - contemporary Christian worship music, and current event references. Their events have drawn over 3 million people in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand since 1990.
