Hero Girl, 9, Delivers Her Own Baby Sister (VIDEO)
Unlike most kids, 9-year-old Alyssa Meza didn't have to wait to meet her baby sister in mommy's recovery room. She delivered her.
Alyssa and her mom Monique were in their Chicago home when Monique went into labor last week.
"She said she felt the baby coming out and I told her to pushed the baby out and I'll catch the baby," Alyssa told WLS. "She got scared. And I catched the baby, grabbed the towel and wrapped her around."
Alyssa remembered what she saw on a medical TV show when a baby was born with the umbilical cord around its neck. When Alyssa saw that Baby Aaliyah's cord was wrapped in the cord, she unwrapped it and got their neighbor, who called 911.
Firefighters arrived after the sudden delivery and credited Alyssa, who says she wants to be a paramedic, for a job well done.
