How Georgetown U students responded to pro-life activists speaking on campus
Dialogue
While some students reacted negatively to Hawkins and the pro-life outreach effort, some stopped to discuss abortion thoughtfully.
During one interaction with a female student, Hawkins asserted that it's inconsistent for feminists to promote this idea that "I'm a woman, hear me roar!" while also telling women that if they get pregnant, their lives are over.
When the female student responded by pointing to the unborn's immature state, Hawkins warned about a "slippery slope" when attempting to define life based on one's capabilities. The pro-choice student had argued that the unborn are not sentient, which made aborting them morally acceptable.
Hawkins told the student about the pro-choice philosopher Peter Singer, who advocates not only for abortion but for infanticide. She pointed out that many pro-choice people do not agree with Singer, and while his views are immoral to most people, Hawkins claimed that the philosopher's stance is the only "logical progression" of the pro-choice position.
The girl eventually ended the conversation by thanking Hawkins for talking with her before heading off to class.
