HP Tablet at $99 Still Available; Stores to Be Replenished Soon

"HP getting more stock of TouchPad early in the week," read the tweet of HP social media manager, Bryna Corcoran, earlier today. It’s a statement that should keep hopes high if you thought your chances of grabbing the $99 HP tablet were gone since it sold out online and across various retailers including Best Buy on Saturday.
"Early in the week" seems to indicate that stores could restock the tablet by early Tuesday or Wednesday. If you want to be the first to know, notifications will be provided at this location.

HP created a frenzy since it slashed its TouchPad tablet's price by three quarters the original price, from $399 to $99. The move was intended to liquidate all the unsold units in stock retailers that were going to be sent back to HP.
The TouchPad represented HP's bid to enter and gain market share in the growing tablet industry but after poor sales the first month, the company slashed the price to $399. Despite possessing similar features to Apple's iPad, currently number one in the market, HP had difficulty drawing and convincing consumers to choose its tablet over Apple's.
It seems that HP might have erred in some areas while competing against Apple such as only having 300 apps available when the tablet was first launched, as well as pricing it initially at $499 in par with the iPad when people weren't really hyped about it.
Although HP is losing millions by liquidating the tablets in stock, there is something valuable and insightful it could learn from all of this: People are scrambling for low-priced tablets.
Many consumers are paying a premium to purchase one of Apple's fancy iPad, but at $499 it seems that many more are searching for a tablet that might not be so hard on their pocketbooks.
