HP TouchPad Watch: HP Home & Office Stores to Get 2nd Wave of Tablets
For the latest news on the availability of the $99 HP TouchPad, Bryna Corcoran, HP's social media manager, tweeted at 3 a.m., Tuesday Aug. 23, the following statement: "I don't have precise ETA on when more are coming in. Just that YES HP Home and Home office store will get some soon."
That means that to all who are hoping to get their hands on the cheaply-priced TouchPad, you might want to be monitoring the HP Home & Home Office Store website. Address available here.
HP still has $99 TouchPads in stock but this second wave of low-priced tablets, which are in the midst of being distributed out to retailers, may just be the last wave.
Close to midnight on Monday, HP announced that it would be replenishing store shelves with HP TouchPads but that the new inventory would be coming from a warehouse, not from manufacturing, meaning that whatever is left is definitely the last.
The TouchPad represented HP's attempt to gain market share in the exciting tablet industry. But after poor sales in its initial month, the company cut the price to $399.
Also, despite possessing similar hardware performance to Apple's iPad 2, currently number one in the market, HP had difficulty attracting consumers to choose its tablet over Apple's.
HP last Thursday announced it was discontinuing production of the TouchPad as well as the WebOS, the mobile operating system that powers the TouchPad.
