HTC One M8 Vs. Galaxy S5: Which One is the Android King?
The HTC One M8 and the Samsung Galaxy S5 are arguably the two finest and most popular Android handsets available in the market.
Both devices feature premium specs, and represent the next-gen flagship handsets that will guide each company through 2014. HTC and Samsung chose to improve on various aspects of their devices and attempted to innovate in areas to make people excited about them. So how do these two high-end models stack up against each other? Here is a brief comparison of the two models.

Samsung chose to go with a new perforated backing that shines in different lighting conditions. This new design is classier than its usual full plastic exterior, however, it just isn't as nice as the leather-like backing found on the Note 3. HTC stuck to the basics here by improving on the all-metal design found on the original HTC One. It's smoother, shinier and makes for a great accessory for those in atmospheres that call for a more sophisticated look. HTC edged out Samsung last year in this department, and did it once again in 2014.
Speed
The HTC One M8 and Galaxy S5 feature quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipsets with 2GB RAM. In terms of speed and efficiency, these handsets appear to be dead even. The major differences would come with the software integration and how well each UI works with the components inside the device. Either, way those looking for a powerful smartphone cannot go wrong with the S5 or One M8. Both of them feature top-of-the-line processors with a nice amount of RAM.
Camera
The Galaxy S5 comes with a 16-megapixel camera with touch to focus, selective focus, high dynamic range and the fastest autofocus on the market. The HTC One packs a 4-Ultrapixel point and shooter with similar features including the ability to create an image with selective focus and its very own high dynamic range. HTC took a different route my making the pixels bigger instead of adding more. HTC has a 5-megapixel front camera while the Galaxy S5 has a 2.1-megapixel one. HTC has the edge in the front while they are probably dead around even in the back.
Display
The Galaxy S5 comes with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with 1920 x 1080 resolution at 432 ppi. The HTC One features a 5-inch LCD display with the same amount of resolution at 441 ppi. Less ppi on the Galaxy S5 could be attributed to the slightly bigger screen. If you work out the numbers, these devices are about even. However, through personal experience, the LCD display just looks a lot more vibrant in a side to side comparison.
Conclusion
Neither HTC nor Samsung have stepped too much out of their comfort zones with the HTC One M8 or Galaxy S5. Both of these phones are a nice improvement from their last-gen models, but neither of them are groundbreaking. Customers looking to purchase a top-of-the-line Android handset can't go wrong with either of these, but HTC seems to have a nice advantage thanks to a better design.
