'Hunger Games' Rumors: Who's In and Who's Out of 'Catching Fire'?
After the incredible success of the initial movie in the "Hunger Games" trilogy, rumors are flying as to who will star in the sequel, "Catching Fire." Names have been thrown around for the new film, which will introduce the new characters Finnick and Johanna.
Dianna Agron is the top choice to play Johanna, who is the tribute paired with Finnick. Agron currently plays Quinn on Fox's hit series "Glee," but is hoping to expand her work. "Catching Fire" would provide an opportunity to develop the character of Johanna further and make her memorable.
According to at least one source, Kristen Bell has asked to be in "Catching Fire" and take on the role of Johanna. The Atlantic Wire, however, has recommended that producers "should pluck someone from out of absolute obscurity, go wander around acting schools and see what's happening."
As for the role of Finnick, buzz is centering on three main men: Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch, and Garrett Hedlund. Hedlund formerly starred in "Tron," while Hammer plays football.
"Twilight" heartthrob Robert Pattinson was rumored to be in the running for the role, but he told USA Today that his agent assured him "no one's going to offer you that part."
Part of the fun of "Hunger Games" is meeting new actors and actresses. For example, Jennifer Lawrence was relatively unknown before gaining the lead role of Katniss in the trilogy. It was her breakout role that put her in the same category as "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart. All of the original cast members have signed on for the entire trilogy, which will certainly keep fans interested.
"Hunger Games" took in over $150 million in the U.S. alone, $214 million worldwide. Its sequel is due on November 22, 2013, and fans are incredibly eager for the next installment. "I can't wait that long! I want to see Finnick!" Kayla Metzger posted on the L.A. Times website.
"I can't stop thinking about the Hunger Games and now I have to wait 'til Nov. 22, 2013!" added Keegan Turner.
