Ice Cream Sandwich Release Date: Source Code Available Nov. 16

The source code for the upcoming Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich should be available Nov. 17, according to Notion Ink’s CEO Rohan Shravan.

“[The] 17th is when we are expecting ICS to be finally out with the source, and then you will see whole community (aka TabletRoms) and NI pushing in ROMs with different flavors,” wrote Shravan on Notion Ink’s official blog.

In just a few days, the operating system’s source code might be made public, according to the statement.

Shravan also added that Notion Ink was doing a full system migration and platform test for their support system today.

“To ensure all the requests/tickets are migrated successfully to our new system, we would be offline for 4 hrs from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m,” he wrote. “Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

Shravan, the head of a firm, is “dedicated to pushing computing devices towards singularity."

He is also a reliable source when it comes to technology news, according to 9to5 Google. Shravan successfully predicted the release date of the Gingerbread source code in the past.

Technology website 9to5 Google described this as “something that doesn’t happen by coincidence. The prediction couldn’t have been made without reference.”

Samsung recently announced the Galaxy Nexus smartphone could be available in Europe as early as Nov. 17.

This could have something to do with the release of the source code, because Ice Cream Sandwich will officially launch with the Galaxy Nexus.

Both the device and the software were unveiled at Samsung and Google’s "Mobile Unpacked" event in October.

The new smartphone is expected to launch in the United States sometime before the end of November as a Verizon exclusive.
