iOS 6.1.1 Beta Now Available for Developers

The iOS 6.1.1 Beta is now being seeded by Apple to developers.

The software update beta comes just two days after a major jailbreak was released for iOS 6.1. The beta's build number is 10B311. It is compatible with many Apple devices including the 4th generation iPad, iPad Mini, 3rd generation iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 4th generation iPod Touch, and the 5th generation iPod Touch.

The software build makes some major improvements for the Maps application for Japanese customers. These improvements include better pronunciation of roads during turn-by-turn navigation, optimized directions to more strongly prefer highways over narrower roads, the ability to notify about upcoming toll roads, added labels for junctions, interchanges, on-ramps, off ramps, and intersections, added indicators for transit station buildings, subway lines, and traffic lights, updated freeway color to green, and updated icons for some location categories such as fire stations and hospitals.

Apple released iOS 6.1 to users of the software last week.

The software update brings a few new features to the operating system including LTE support for more carriers, the ability to purchase movie tickets through Fandango by using Siri, and a new button to reset the Advertising Identifier.

"iOS 6 is the world's most advanced mobile operating system, and with nearly 300 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices on iOS 6 in just five months, it may be the most popular new version of an OS in history," said Philip Schiller, Apples senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "iOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, FaceTime video calls, iCloud services, and iTunes and App Store downloads."

The newly supported LTE carriers in the U.S. include Alaska Communications, Alaska GCI, Bluegrass Cellular, C Spire, Cellcom, and Pioneer Cellular.
