iPad 3 Makes an Appearance?
Jeremy Horowitz, the editor of iLounge, seems to have gotten his hands on what he says is the next generation iPad.
He failed to provide a picture of what he claims is the iPad 3, but he did describe it on iLounge and it seems to support some rumors reported on the site regarding the device back in November.
“The new iPad’s body is so slightly thicker than the iPad 2 that the change is unnoticeable on first inspection; a roughly 1mm increase will barely be perceptible to users,” Horowitz wrote. “We’ve heard that the only accessories that might have issues are cases, and then, only cases that were precisely contoured to fit the iPad 2’s back.”
Horowitz was happy to report that most iPad 2 accessories would fit on the next-gen version. He also said that the device he claims to be the next iPad that he is describing “seemed to be more than half a year old” rather than just manufactured.
9to5Mac reports that what Horowitz was holding could have been a pre-production prototype. The iLounge editor also noticed an advanced camera system on this iPad.
“On the rear, the camera in the upper left corner has become bigger-noticeably so when placed alongside the iPad 2, but not so huge that anyone would think they were different at a distance,” he added. “The new camera hole is silver-ringed, and does in fact look the same size as the iPhone 4S’s much – improved rear camera system, minus the LED flash.”
The iPad 3 is rumored to be launching sometime in March of 2012. Tech site DigiTimes reported that the tablet will come in two different versions. The site also stated that an iPad 4 is expected to come out shortly after the iPad 3.
