iPad 5th Generation and Future MacBook Pro to Feature IGZO Display
Apple plans to implement IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) displays into some of its future devices, according to new reports.
The company has already decided to use this type of screen for its upcoming MacBook Pro model, according to Patently Apple.
"According to industry insiders, having decided to apply the IGZO method to displays for MacBook, Apple is talking with LCD panel manufacturers, such as Sharp and LG Display," wrote the site.

IGZO is expected to make its first MacBook Pro appearance sometime in the first half of 2014, according to Patently Apple. The display will also be featured in the fifth-generation iPad due out later this year.
Apple is currently in talks with Sharp to produce the displays for the new tablet. News surfaced last year that Sharp had already begun mass production of IGZO displays that could be used in future Apple products.
IGZO is a semiconducting material that possesses forty times more electron mobility than what is found in many of today's LCD displays. Those screens normally use standard amorphous silicon for an active layer. In comparison, IGZO will allow for higher resolution displays, better reaction times, and less power consumption.
The iPad 5 release date could be scheduled for September, according to a report from DigiTimes.
The publication states that upstream suppliers have mostly finished preparing for the production of the new 9.7-inch iPad and that there will not be many changes made to the specifications for the device.
"Although suppliers have not yet received a firm mass production schedule from Apple and are mainly shipping products for pilot production, the sources pointed out that pilot production is already able to satisfy demand for the initial launch," wrote the publication.
Sources now expect Apple to give its shipment estimates at the end of July or early August.
