iPhone 5 Coming to T-Mobile in 2013?

T-Mobile could be making the necessary steps to acquire the next-generation iPhone sometime in 2013.

T-Mobile's CEO and president Philipp Humm recently spoke with a Wall Street analyst via conference call and stated that the company would begin an initiative to create a 4G LTE network.

This initiative would give the company the ability to carry the next iPhone since that device is expected to be 4G LTE. In total, it will include a 4 billion dollar investment over time into network modernization and LTE deployment.

According to T-Mobile's holiday quarterly earnings, the company has suffered tremendously by not receiving the iPhone 4S. The carrier lost 802,000 contract customers because of this. The company's quarterly revenue dropped down 3.3 percent to 20.6 billion.

T-Mobile hopes to have the 4G LTE network up by 2013. The carrier expects to deploy LTE on a larger scale servicing the top 50 markets and 20 MHz service in 75 percent of the top 25 markets.

The company was relying on the AT&T merge in order to solve expenditure issues, however, that deal fell through leaving T-Mobile behind the rest of the major U.S. carriers by not having LTE.

T-Mobile plans to take advantage of extra spectrum that it acquired from AT&T along with re-farming some of its existing frequencies. By doing so, it hopes to reduce the amount of 1900 MHz PCS spectrum used for GSM to deploy HSPA+ in the PCS band and to make room in the AWS band for LTE.

This will harmonize T-Mobile's spectrum bands within the U.S. and international carriers.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5 sometime during the summer of this year. It is rumored to be 4G LTE, have an A6 quad-core chip and a larger display. If T-Mobile's plans come to fruition, there is a strong chance the next iPhone could land on the carrier and boost its revenue back up by the new year.
