iPhone 5 Release Date Coming in Summer 2012

The iPhone 5 release date is set to be in the summer of 2012, according to a statement made recently to a Foxconn employee.

Foxconn, one of Apple's top manufacturers of the iPhone recently leaked information to tech site 9to5Mac, revealing that the next iPhone is currently being geared up for production. The source also stated that various sample devices are floating around so it is impossible to tell which one will be the final version.

All of these sample devices reportedly feature a 4+ inch display that is made by LG on at least one model.

The teardrop shape design seems to have been scrapped since not one of the sample devices sport this look. The samples have also been symmetrical in thickness, according to 9to5Mac and are longer and wider.

Another interesting fact reported by the source is that none of these sample handsets have the iPhone 4/4S form factor. However, none of them are the final product either.

9to5Mac also commented on Apple's plans. "We've heard the no-teardrop/4-inch display information before in a report from iLounge but what's important to note here is that iPhone 4S production didn't gear up until Spring last year," wrote the site.

"If we follow patterns and give a five month-ish lead time, it would appear that Apple is back on its new iPhone launch for Summer/WWDC pattern that it maintained until last year," added 9to5Mac.

The site also explains how this same source confirmed that Apple was not going to release the iPhone 5 and instead were gearing up to launch the iPhone 4S in the fall of last year.

The next iPhone is expected to be an LTE device and include an A6 chip with quad-core processing speeds. It is also rumored to have a larger screen.
