iPhone 5 Release Date: First Pictures of Device Revealed?

The iPhone 5 is expected to be unveiled at Apple’s October 4 media event and benm.at has created a mock-up version of the device based on the rumored tear-drop design.

It is not clear whether the company will be giving the public a first look at a radically changed model, or an updated iPhone 4 which mostly resembles the current Apple smartphone called the 4S.

Recent rumors seem to be pointing more frequently towards a device that closely resembles the iPhone 4.

But benm.at chose to take a stab at the tear-drop design which allegedly came from the guts of a prototype found in the Shenzhen district of China.

“Based on CAD designs, hardware components, several leaked hints, cases and recent, believable mockups we created a three-dimensional computer model. The virtual model was then used to build a very detailed, true protype that you can hold in your own two hands,” read a statement by the mock-ups creator.

Benm.at used a process similar to the one used to create an iPad which included a backing from a solid block of aluminum, which was then treated with glass pearls to get the same look as Apple’s tablet.

This mock-up provides those who are interested with a near-accurate first look at what the tear-drop shaped iPhone 5 would look and feel like.

The actual device may not debut at next week’s event, but analysts are sure that Apple has plans to create something based on this now infamous design.

This thin tapered reworked version of the iPhone has been rumored to be in the works for several months now.

This device, along with an updated version of the iPhone 4, are expected to be released by Apple in October.

But according to some experts, the tear-drop design might not debut until 2012.
