The release date for the upcoming iPhone 5 smartphone is rumored to be announced at this year's WWDC which takes place in June.

This report originated from the Commercial Times where Daiwa Securities analysts were quoted while speaking about the future of the device.

"The iPhone 5 will continue to utilize glass to glass touch panel technology which will benefit current touch panel suppliers TPK Holding and Wintek, the paper quoted the securities house as saying," read the report.

It expects Apple to announce the iPhone 5's launch at WWDC, an event that is normally held in June and will probably take place between the 10 and 15 of that month.

The iPhone 4S was the first iPhone in the history of the company that was not released around WWDC. The company is expected to return to its normal strategy with the launch of its next-gen handset.

This works perfectly for those who purchased the iPhone 4 with a two-year contract since their agreement will be up. iPhone 4S owners will have to wait a little longer. However, there are always ways around these things and purchasing an unlocked device is always an option.

The iPhone 5 is rumored to include a larger touch-screen display. It is not clear whether or not it will undergo a makeover in terms of its frame. Clearly some adjustments must need to be made due to the change in screen size.

It is also expected to be Apple's first ever LTE smartphone and feature NFC (near-field-communications) as well. However, none of these rumors have been confirmed by Apple.

If the device is unveiled at WWDC, then Apple fans should be able to get their hands on the next-gen iPhone at the beginning of this summer.
