iPhone 5 Release Date: Will Next iPhone Feature Siri?

The next Apple iPhone is expected to receive a complete revamp, with updates to both its software and external chassis.

Industry experts speculate that this could also mean an update for the artificial intelligence system, Siri.

Siri, which has been advertised as a virtual personal assistant was introduced with the release of the iPhone 4S. Apple has stated that the program is meant to be exclusive to the 4S.

Siri has been ported onto a number of older Apple devices, including the iPhone 4, the iPad and the iPod Touch; however, developers who have ported Siri report that Apple is not allowing Siri to connect to its servers when implemented on a device other than the iPhone 4S.

Experts suggest that if Siri is an iPhone 4S exclusive, that Apple may be planning future generations of the virtual personal assistant, for future generations of iPhones.

Most expect that the next iPhone will be called iPhone 5.

Despite having received much commercial success thus far, many consumers remain disappointed that the iPhone 4S retained the original chassis of the iPhone 4.

Rumors continue to project that the iPhone 5 will features a larger screen and a curvier, teardrop shape.

Tech website 9to5Mac recently speculated that the iPhone 5 was not released in 2011 because the software updates that Apple planned could not fit into the slimmer form proposed for the smartphone.

Comments from Foxconn, iPhone manufacturer, suggest the iPhone 4S was initially meant release as early as 2010 to gauge consumer's opinions of Siri before it officially debuted on a 2011 release of the iPhone 5.

Apple officials said “hardware/software compatibility” is among the many reasons why the company has not adopted 4G LTE capabilities for its smartphones.

However, experts think Apple will introduce LTE in 2012.

The iPhone 5 is expected to release between mid-2012 and mid-2013.
