iPhone 5S Release Date Set for September 20: What Time Do Online Orders Begin?
The iPhone 5s release date is set for Sept. 20 and Apple has announced the time that online orders for the smartphone will officially begin.
Customers will be able to order the new Apple smartphone through the company's online store starting at 12:01 AM Pacific Time on Sept. 20.
"Buy iPhone 5S from the Apple Online Store after 12:01 a.m. PST on Sept. 20," read a message on Apple.com.
The site also announced that customers looking to purchase the device at local brick and mortar locations can do so starting at 8:00 a.m. local time on that date.
Apple did not offer pre-orders for the iPhone 5S, however, the company did begin offering them for the iPhone 5C this past week. The iPhone 5C will be available on Sept. 20 as well.
Apple unveiled the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C at its media event last week.
The iPhone 5S will come with a new A7 processor and will be the world's first true 64-bit smartphone. Apple stated that it is five times faster than its predecessor the iPhone 5, and will run the newly unveiled Infinity Blade 3 app with absolutely no lag.
The device will also feature the new M7 motion sensor chip which will be able to detect if the user is walking or driving and will work with apps related to the function being performed at a given time. The chip continuously measures motion data, comes equipped with an accelerometer, gyroscope and compass, and will be useful for a new generation of health and fitness apps.
The long-rumored fingerprint sensor also made it to the iPhone 5S in the form of TouchID that can read the fingerprints of users at very detailed levels. The sensor is installed underneath the home button. By pressing the home button, the phone can be unlocked when it reads the user's prints.
