Jimmy Kimmel, Wife Expecting First Child (VIDEO)
Jimmy Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney announced that they are expecting their first child together.
The newlyweds tied the knot during a star-studded ceremony in Ojai, Calif. on July 13. Now, the 46-year-old late-night television host and his 35-year-old bride have even more to celebrate.
"I'm having a baby," Kimmel announced during an appearance on "Ellen DeGeneres" this week.
It is the first child for the couple, who met on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" where McNearney is co-head writer. The pair started dating in 2009 and got engaged on an African safari in 2012. However, the child will be Kimmel's third- the television personality has two children, son Kevin, 20, and daughter Katie, 22, from his previous marriage.
While speaking to DeGeneres, Kimmel referred to his friends John Krasinki and Emily Blunt who just welcomed their first child on Feb. 16, Hazel.
"I've really forgotten everything. It's funny because I was with some friends (neighbors Krasinki and Blunt) who just had a baby and I was like, 'Oh yeah.' And there's new ways to do things," he said.
Kimmel also joked about how he broke the baby news to his adult children, and took a crack at his own age.
"I told my daughter, 'Listen, there's only so much love I have to give- you're gonna have to split it up with the new kid," he said. "'There's a finite amount of love and that's that.' So they're dealing with it, but it is very weight at my age. I'm going to be one of those old dads."
Nonetheless, Kimmel and his wife have not yet decided if they will learn the child's gender ahead of the birth.
"I would like it to be a surprise and my wife was happy with that idea until about a week ago," he explained. "She started saying, 'We really need to find out.' But I don't think it matters. You [don't] need to make the baby's room blue or pink- it's inherently ridiculous. I don't think they can even see colors."
Meanwhile, it comes as no surprise that Kimmel shared the baby news with DeGeneres first- the television hosts are longtime friends, and DeGeneres even attended Kimmel and McNearney's summertime wedding, according to Us Weekly. Also among the wedding guests were stars such as Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Matt Damon, Jennifer Aniston, and the aforementioned Emily Blunt and John Krasinki.
