Jodie Sweetin Separates from Third Husband, Was Sober When Making Decision
Jodie Sweetin filed papers seeking a legal separation from her third husband, Morty Coyle, as well as sole custody of the couple's daughter, Beatrix. Sources maintain that Sweetin is "in good spirits" and was completely sober in her decision-making.
"She seems in good spirits," a source told Us Weekly. "She's sober still, so she's in way better shape than last time. It's definitely true. I guess it's not working out."
Sweetin and Coyle married in 2012 but did not announce their marriage until their one-year anniversary.
"We had wanted to keep it quiet and intimate for a while but felt that on our first wedding anniversary, it was time to share!" Sweetin told People at the time. "Our day was a wonderful, intimate celebration with each other and our families."
The couple welcomed daughter Beatrix in 2011, and Sweetin is seeking sole custody of the little girl. She already has one daughter, Zoie, with ex-husband Cody Herpin. Sweetin was also wed to Shaun Hoguin, but they never had any children.
Sweetin cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation, though she has not said specifically what those differences are. She also filed for ownership of the couple's 2000 Toyota Avalon and for Coyle to pay half of their $200 Kohl's credit card balance.
The actress has stayed away from the entertainment industry in order to focus on her family, but in 2009 wrote her memoir, "unSweetined," in which she revealed that she had struggled with drug and alcohol addiction.
"I got sober for good on December 7, 2008. I was flying to L.A. and I ended up taking a bunch of Nyquil and drinking a [expletive]. From that day forward, I threw myself into going to AA and avoided people who do blow off their coffee tables. But life is good," Sweetin wrote. "I'm happier than I can remember."
Sweetin stayed clean for her daughter and worked hard to ensure a healthy pregnancy and birth for her second daughter, Beatrix.
