John McAfee Arrested in Guatemala After Saying He 'Chose Country Carefully'
John McAfee was arrested in Guatemala after entering the country illegally, his lawyer told the media. He is due to be deported to Belize, where he will be investigated for the murder of Greg Faull, unless a judge deems it unsafe for him to be in the country's custody.
"Thank God I am in a place where there is some sanity," McAfee told ABC News in an interview on Wednesday. "I chose Guatemala carefully. Instead of going, 'You're crazy,' they [Guatemalans] go, 'Yeah, of course they are.' It's like, finally, I understand people who understand the system here."
McAfee has maintained that the Belizean government wants to kill him after he went on the run following the death of Faull. Police have said, however, that they merely want to talk to McAfee and determine what he knows about Faull's murder. McAfee took off immediately after the death, which happened in November.

Since then, he has donned disguises, has body doubles throughout the area, and kept in touch with the public through a blog. McAfee has always maintained his innocence, though police are suspicious since Faull was shot in the head similarly to the way McAfee shot his own dogs in the head after they were poisoned.
"You don't have to believe what the police say," McAfee's lawyer, Telesforo Guerra, told ABC News. "Even though they say he is not a suspect they were trying to capture him."
He was expected to announce his appeal for asylum in Guatemala today, but the arrest took place before that could happen. McAfee has only come out of hiding to give interviews to ABC News and CNN but never revealed his exact location.
"He is extremely paranoid. I would go so far as to say even bonkers," Belize's Prime Minister, Dean Barrow, told the press.
A judge is expected to rule on the deportation within the next few days; McAfee will remain in custody until them.
