John Travolta Surrounded by Scientology 'Minders' for 2 Years After Son's Death
Actor and famous Scientologist John Travolta recently spoke about his experience within the controversial organization and gave it credit for helping him to cope with his son's death. Travolta admitted that he was surrounded by Scientologists who kept him on-track and made sure he was taken care of.
"I don't think I could have gotten through it," Travolta told The Telegraph. "They were with me every day after Jett died. They even traveled with me when I needed to get away," he said of his "minders" from the Scientology organization. "And for a two solid years it was like that. It was only in the second year that I started to take a break of a day or two just to see how I was doing on my own."
Travolta has been a practicing member of Scientology since 1975 when he learned about L. Ron Hubbard's teachings. He has been an outspoken proponent of the organization and makes no qualms about his decision to remain with the practice despite all of its controversies. Wife Kelly Preston is also a practicing member and has also credited the organization with helping her overcome her own grief at son Jett's death.

"Johnny is definitely my rock. Kirstie [Alley] is one of my absolute best friends. My mom, my brother. And to be honest, the Scientology center. I don't know if I would have made it through without it," Kelly told Health magazine.
She and John have been married for 23 years and have had three children: Jett, who passed away in 2009; daughter Ella Bleu, 11; and son Benjamin, 3. Kelly and John welcomed son Benjamin just one year after Jett's death and saw it as an incredible blessing and reaffirmation of faith and goodness.
"Don't sweat the small things," Kelly told Health. "Love your kids like it could be the last moment. It's pretty amazing having a child at this age."
