'Justice for Peanut': 5 reactions to killing of celebrity squirrel seized by New York authorities
JD Vance
Former President Donald Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, addressed the squirrelcontroversy alongside Donald Trump Jr. during a Sunday rally in North Carolina. The Republican senator told the crowd that Trump’s son is “fired up” about the squirrel’s death.
“He was like, ‘You know, is it really the case that the Democrats murdered the Elon Musk of squirrels?’” Vance said. “Have you seen the videos of this squirrel? He’s like a genius. Or he was.”
Vance then accused government officials who euthanized Peanut of focusing more on pets than illegal immigration. Trump’s campaign has repeatedly criticized the Biden administration’s immigration policies, noting that their policies have enabled illegal migrants with criminal records to enter the country.
“The same government that doesn’t care about hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrant criminals coming into our country doesn’t want us to have pets,” Vance said. “It’s the craziest thing.”
