Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez Just Friends

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are not together despite their recent reunion on July 4, sources say.

Bieber, the 19-year-old singer, and Gomez, the 20-year-old actress and singer, may have been romantically involved for two years, but they are only attempting to work on a friendship according to E! News.

"They are trying to maintain a friendship," a source said according to E! News.

Bieber seemed to agree with these sentiments in a recent interview.

"As long as people are kind to each other during a breakup, there is no reason they can't be friends," the singer told Us Weekly. "A lot of people give me relationship advice."

Bieber and Gomez were spotted by the public on July 4 when Jas Prince, the son of Rap-A-Lot Records founder James Prince, posted an Instagram video of himself where the entertainers were spotted with their arms around each other, HollywoodLife.com reports. Bieber's friends Alfredo Flores and rapper Lil' Twist also posted separate Instagram images of Gomez and her on-and-off again boyfriend over the holiday weekend. Bieber took to Twitter to comment about his July 4 holiday.

Gomez spoke about breaking up with Bieber last month.

"It's uncomfortable that everywhere I go, people know. I don't like that," Gomez told InStyle magazine last month. "But Justin and I never really focused on the attention. You can't help who you date. So I wouldn't swear off that or say that's what I want again."

However, the actress and singer insisted that breaking up with Bieber was not the worst thing in the world.

"I don't know. I'm a kid, and a breakup is normal," she told InStyle. "I have to go through the emotions and feel it out. I'm doing my own thing, being with my friends, and he's doing very well too."
