Kaia Gerber Makes Controversial Modeling Debut As Crawford Look-Alike

Runway royal Cindy Crawford's daughter Kaia Gerber has made her modeling debut in an ad where she appears identical to her mother.

The 10-year-old model made her first appearance in an ad campaign for Young Versace. Gerber not only looks older than her age, but is a spitting image of her iconic mother.

Gerber poses with hands in the pockets of her leather jacket while leaning on one leg. Her long dark hair falls behind her and similar to her mother, a small mole is visible near the young model's mouth.

Because of her adolescence, many people have criticized the ad, and believe Gerber may be too young for such a career. The Orange County Register notes in a report that questions are being raised about whether the short skirt and pose by Gerber are too provocative.

Also, Twitter users have sounded off about Gerber in the new Versace campaign.

"Cindy Crawford's daughter is sexier at the age of 10 than I was at 19," wrote Twitter user Lauren.

Leah also wrote on the social media site, "This Cindy Crawford's 10 yr old daughter modeling- she does not look 10 & it makes me sad."

In the past, Versace has featured Crawford in ads including a campaign during the early 1990s shot by Richard Avedon.

Despite criticism for Gerber's appearance in the new ads, Crawford is "thrilled" about her daughter's up-and-coming career. The supermodel released a statement earlier this week about Gerber's appearance in the youth-targeted ads.

"I'm so thrilled that Kaia was chosen to be part of the Young Versace campaign," said the 45-year-old supermodel in a press release. "I have so many fond memories of the times I spent with Gianni and Donatella. There is something so very special about the House of Versace."
