Kanye West Calls Himself a 'Humble Servant,' Says Humans Born Into a 'Broken World'
Kanye West recently visited the syndicated radio program Power 105.1's "The Breakfast Club" where he discussed his recent antics at the year's Grammy Awards and his self-proclaimed role in the world as a "humble servant."
West was also asked about his role at Adidas creating new sneakers and shared his thoughts on how classism has an impact on which products people buy.
"Right now people will try to put on a jacket to try to act like they're better than you. And I think this idea of being better than the next man, it's the wrong mentality in the first place," West said on Friday. "We were born into a broken world that's been separated by race, religion and class."
He was then challenged by host Charlemagne who criticized him for rushing the stage at this year's Grammy Awards during Beck's album of the year win. West subsequently admitted that he's a hypocrite for saying the Grammy's need to respect art and should have given Beyoncé the award, and even said he hadn't listened to Beck's album before that night.
During a dinner with Taylor Swift, a singer whom he also rushed the stage at during the MTV Music Video Awards in 2010 while she won an award over Beyoncé, ironically the Beck album was being played in the background.
"I was like man, this is kind of good," West said. "I bet you that album was really good. I'm going to listen to that album and maybe it was potentially an album of the year."
West also spent time talking about the wealthiest people in the United States and what their role should be in society.
"Us, as rich people, our focus shouldn't be on how we get a new phantom," he said. "Our focus should be on how do we help the middle to the lower class to have a better life."
Kanye also explained that he no longer wants to give himself titles that would make people think that he's prideful or thinks more highly of himself than he should while pursuing a career in fashion.
"I don't even want to give myself any form of a title anymore," he said. "I'm not calling myself a genius; I'm not calling myself a visionary; only thing that [I] could say is that I'm a servant. I want to serve. And if I could get a group of amazing designers to create something to be able to serve the public, then that's my job. I'm just a humble servant."
West is working on his shoe line with Adidas and his new album which has no release date at this time. He claims its around 80 percent done and he's released a single from it titled "Only One."
