Kate Gosselin on the Single Life: 'I'm So Lonely' (VIDEO)
Love her or not, you most definitely have heard of Kate Gosselin. She became famous for raising eight children with husband Jon before the couple divorced in 2009. In a new interview, Kate has spoken very candidly about the challenges of being a single mother.
Appearing on LifeChangers with Dr. Drew Pinsky, Gosselin spoke honestly about the single life. "I'm too busy [for a relationship]. I think a lot of my friends who are being constructive say, 'Gosh, who are you going to meet that is going to be able to deal with eight kids?'"
"My answer is always: if they can deal with eight kids in our situation, it probably [is] the [right] person. It will sort of prove it. The odds are so against me, one mom and eight kids," she added.
Statistics show that in 2010 there were 96 million singles, and 9.9 million of those were single moms with children. Yet Gosselin does not want much from her next partner, in the way that many would expect. "I think a lot of people mistake that and think someone is going to come in and help you co-parent eight kids. How do you expect that?"
"I don't," she answered. "I mean, I don't expect someone to come in and financially provide for my kids. I mean, they're mine, and that's my job. Just to have somebody there… I'm so lonely. I clean up the house, put the kids to bed and there I sit."
Gosselin has kept herself busy, though, working hard to keep the children in their everyday activities, school, and the home they live in. "I told them [kids] that I will work my fingers to the bone to make sure that they can stay here and go to their school. There are no guarantees in life for anyone, but they know I'm giving it my best shot," she told People in 2011.
In addition to the TV series, which aired its last episode in 2011, Gosselin has written several books about her larger-than-life family. Multiple Blessings and Eight Little Faces both debuted at No. 5 on the New York Times' best-seller list. Her most recent book, I Just Want You to Know is a collection of letters written by Kate to her children and even to God.
Zondervan published the book and received a great deal of criticism for even working with Kate after her divorce. Yet the book focuses on the intimate nature of being a parent of multiples and the stress that comes with it. Gosselin describes her relationship with God and the faith she has that things will all work out for her and the family.
"As I always say, I didn't set out to have eight children, but I ended up with the best eight kids on the planet and I thank God daily for each one of you," she writes in the book.
And as for those who offer free criticism or judgment, Kate has a message. "I don't really have time to pay attention, and I do have a thick skin."
