Kate Middleton Baby Shower: Duchess to Break Royal Tradition?
Kate Middleton will reportedly break Royal tradition, with new reports claiming the Duchess of Cambridge is preparing to have a baby shower.
Victoria Arbiter, who is the daughter of former Queen Elizabeth II's press secretary Dickie Arbiter, previously confirmed that baby showers were not a part of Royal tradition. However an alleged friend of Middleton's claims that her younger sister Pippa is currently in the process of planning one.
"It was her sister Pippa's idea," the alleged friend told OK! magazine. The mom-to-be is hoping her husband Prince William's grandmother makes an appearance.
"While it's all going to be very relaxed and fun, Kate is hoping the queen will drop by because the two are remarkably close. They bonded big time and really enjoy each other's company. Since this is going to be a first for royals, Kate would love the queen to be part of it," the friend explained.
Pippa, 29, is said to be taking charge of the event. She will reportedly use her party planning skills to host an ideal baby shower.
"Pippa is in charge of decorations," the insider said. "Wine and beer will be available — not that Kate will be drinking alcohol, of course There will certainly be none of the hard stuff."
Middleton, 31, is no stranger to breaking royal traditions. During her 2011 royal wedding to Prince William the Duchess opted to travel to her wedding by car instead of ceremonial coach, breaking centuries of royal tradition.
Arbiter, who is also ABC's royals contributor, confirmed that Middleton will likely again break tradition when she goes in to labor, taking the late Princess Diana's lead.
"Chances are that Kate will have the baby in a hospital. Traditionally the Royals have had the baby at home. Diana did have William and Harry in the hospital," Arbiter told E! News.
Middleton is said to be considering St. Mary's hospital as a birth place for her and Prince William's first child.
"I would imagine with the first birth, all the anxiety surrounding a first birth, it could be St. Mary's, where William and Harry were both born, probably for sentimental reasons for William," Arbiter said.
"Ultimately it depends on where Kate's team of doctors are and where she feels most comfortable. They are going to want to make sure that she is as stress-free as possible," she continued, adding, "Kate is carrying the future heir to the throne!"
