Kim Kardashian 'A Waste of Air Time,' Says Gloria Steinem
Gloria Steinem, a well-known feminist leader, was extremely critical of Kim Kardashian when she was asked about the actress’s marriage, divorce, and reality shows.
Steinem told a PopSugar TV reporter that the hubbub surrounding all things Kardashian was, “a waste of airtime.” To her, there are many more important issues to talk about, rather than debating about whether or not someone divorcing after 72 days gets to keep the wedding ring.
Referring specifically to Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, Steinem stated, “it’s a waste of those two young people’s lives, it’s a waste of money.”
The former power couple could debate this, with their highly publicized nuptials raking in a reported $17.9 million, according to the New York Post.
But Steinem doesn’t blame the estranged couple for making money, multiple reality shows, the constant attention around them, or recent success – she blames the media.
According to the self-proclaimed radical feminist, “everybody seems to know but the media” that covering all things Kardashian is a fruitless endeavor.
Instead, Steinem encourages women to take on less “traditional” roles than wives, mothers, and homemakers. “You have to be able to imagine something different,” she professed.
Interestingly enough, the political activist does not deem Kim Kardashian as divergent enough from traditional thinking.
However, the reality star could be considered strikingly different from the typical American woman, becoming involved in business, television, modeling, acting, and a variety of merchandising deals on various products.
It is also fairly obvious that Kim was not eager to settle down and bear children for her husband, either. She reportedly said, “How am I going to have my career and live in Minnesota?” according to TMZ.
Kris Humphries had thought the business portion of his wife’s life was over, but was apparently wrong.
Kim Kardashian also has significantly more money than Kris, embodying the pay equality Steinem has advocated for decades.
