Kim Kardashian Cancer Comments: Critics Boycott Season Finale of E! Reality Show
Kim Kardashian has reportedly outraged cancer patients around the nation after likening the challenges of her ongoing divorce to that of a young girl with cancer, and critics are calling for a boycott against the E! network on Sunday.
"Keeping Up With The Kardashians," a reality TV show about the Kardashian family that is aired by the E! Network, will air its season finale on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 9/8c. Critics are calling on would-be viewers to boycott the show in protest of what they deemed to be offensive remarks recently made Kim, according to noseyperez.com.
In a recent interview with a British tabloid, Kim, 31, spoke about her decision to televise her over-the-top 2011 nuptials to Kris Humphries. The reality TV personality tried to explain that the backlash that she received following her abrupt divorce filing after just 72 days was difficult.
"But I think that, with any decisions in life- like, I spoke to a girl today who had cancer and we were talking about how this is such a hard thing for her, but it taught her a big lesson on who her friends are and so much about life. She's 18. And I was like, that's how I feel," Kim told The Guardian U.K.
A number of outraged fans and cancer patients flocked to social networking site twitter where they blasted Kim for her comment.
"Kim Kardashian you have your HEALTH, Comparing your divorce to cancer is DISGUSTING," Alanna tweeted.
"Kim kardashian said that going through her divorce is like going through cancer. Seriously … #getreal" Tyler tweeted.
"I hate the Kardashian's. 1st Kris talks about her boobs during the 9/11 moment of silence, 2nd Kim compares divorce to cancer," Sarah tweeted.
Cancer patients are reportedly calling for a nationwide "black out" of the E! Network on Sunday night, and viewers are being asked to visit cancer websites instead and if possible to donate funds to cancer charities in a bid to help raise cancer awareness.
A cancer awareness sticker which reads "Raise Awareness. Boycott the Kardashians" has been created for the cause, and critics are urging Twitter users to share the sticker via social networking sites.
Kim's controversial cancer comment comes just two days after her mother, Kris Jenner, outraged the public by appearing on NBC's "Today" show on Sept. 11.
In the past, the struggling network has often observed a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. to mark the moment that the first plane hit the World Trade Center building on September 11, 2001 in New York City. Tuesday, however, viewers were stunned to see an interview with Jenner in which the 56-year-old grandmother discussed her new breast implants and her reality show.
Viewers are also calling for a boycott of the NBC network, which stood by its decision to air Jenner's interview instead of 9/11 tributes.
